THE HOW TO CO. — EDITION 10
THE DETAIL
A backrest has one job — to put support into the small of your back, at the height your back actually is. Everything else about it is upholstery. The adjustments that matter are the ones that move that support: lumbar depth and height, recline, and an armrest that can reach desk level so your shoulders stop holding your arms up.

FROM THE CURATOR
Every chair on a showroom floor feels good for ninety seconds — that is what the top layer of foam is for. Take a book. Sit in it properly, feet flat, for twenty minutes, and notice whether you have started shifting. The chair that is still comfortable at minute eighteen is the one, and it is very often not the one that felt best at minute one.
