The plate above settles how much shelf a figure eats. Everything after that is upkeep, and it comes down to two objects: a jointed arm holding forty-three centimetres of resin off its own ankles, and a bench where a factory paint job stops being the last word on what the thing looks like.

I owned forty-one figures and no shelf. That is not a collection, it is a queue.

So I picked one. The 1/7 went in the middle at eye height with a single warm strip above it, and the other forty went into a drawer for a month. Nine came back out. The rest I sold, gave away, or admitted I had bought at two in the morning during a sale. One of the nine is a repaint I did badly — the seam still shows on the left shoulder — and it stays, because I made it. Curation is subtraction, and the figure that earns the centre spot is the one you would carry out of a fire.
