SHELF 03 / 07 · TEXTILE CONSERVATION

The textile wing of a plastic museum.

Every other bay on this wall wipes clean. Plush absorbs the room instead — dust, sunlight, smoke, the flat you kept it in. The rules change at this shelf.

You are here.

Every chapter in this region is a bay on this wall. This one is 03. Back to the wall to walk the rest.

The care tag, enlarged.

DRAWN IN THE GALLERY

Four millimetres of satin sewn into a back seam, carrying the only instructions the maker ever gave you. Here it is at exhibit scale: five marks, five names, and the number the dots have been quietly encoding all along.

Above, a metre wide. Below, the same label at the size it is actually sewn — and the job those five marks order: surface first, water last.

Macro on a plush seam and its sewn-in care tag, the stitches sharp.
THE TAG · FOUR MILLIMETRES, IN THE SEAM
A plush mid clean: a soft brush in frame, a lint roller beside it, a towel underneath.

This bay holds three cases.

SHELF 03 · CASES 01—03

Cleaning is the case nobody opens until there is a mark on a face. Scarcity is the case everybody opens first. The third is where the two meet — licensed lines, where condition and rarity get priced together.

A shelf of plush in raking light, dust visible in the beam, the cream wall quiet above them.

Dust does not settle on plush. It moves in.

POPPY — CLASS: CURATOR
One limited plush with an oversized swing tag, shot shallow against dark cloth.

FROM THE CURATOR

The one shelf I put a door on

Glass sheds what lands on it. Fibre keeps it. Dust turns grey, a south window turns beige, and one summer of open windows becomes a smell you never fully get back out. So my plush sits behind a door at chest height, out of the window’s throw, swing tags in sleeves, nothing stacked on top of anything. It is the least dramatic shelf in the room and the only one that still looks like the day it arrived.

5 PIECES · IN THE ARCHIVE

The archive behind this bay. Titles are set and the pieces are being written — nothing here links yet, because a label pointing at an empty case is worse than a label that says wait.
